Mrs. Shirley Ann (Massengale) Brown of Monticello, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Monday, May 5, 2025, at her residence in Monticello, Kentucky, having attained the age of 86 years, 5 months, and 20 days. She was born in the Gap Creek Community of Wayne County, Kentucky on Tuesday, November 15, 1938, the daughter of Ode M. & Delphia (Bertram) Massengale. Shirley was of the Baptist faith and a devoted member of Steubenville Baptist Church. Professionally, Shirley served her community with care and diligence as an assistant with the UK Extension Agency and later as a secretary at both Powersburg Elementary and Turner Intermediate in the Wayne County School system. Her work was always marked by warmth, dedication, and a servant's heart. She was also an accomplished cook and gardener, known for nurturing not only her plants and meals but also the hearts of those around her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Brown, whom she wed on Thursday, June 12, 1958, siblings, Gene Massengale, Letha Ragan, Mona Perdue.
She is survived by her son, Robert L.E. Brown, daughter, Micah (& Stuart) Hicks, both of Monticello, Kentucky, grandchildren, Jenessa Brown (& Landon Morrow), Leandra Brown, Zach Hicks, Landry Brown, and Sydney Hicks (& William King), great-grandchildren, Sophia Morrow, and Logan Watson.
The funeral service was conducted on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. E.S.T. in the Memory Chapel of the New’s Monticello Funeral Home with Family as Casket Bearers. Burial was in the Elk Springs Cemetery in Monticello, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, contributions appreciated to Mountain View Baptist Camp Cabin Refurbish Fund, or the AWANA c/o Steubenville Baptist Church.
