Mrs. Ruby Jane (Crabtree) Stephens-Keeton, of Monticello, Kentucky, passed on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, Kentucky, having attained the age of 101 years, 5 months, and 22 days. She was born on Saturday, August 19, 1922, in Windy, Kentucky, the daughter of Christman & Myrta (Burris) Crabtree. She was of the Baptist Faith, a member of the First Baptist Church, worked for Monticello Independent School System for many years, served on the Monticello Board of Education, and loved professional square dancing with her first husband Harry. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by, her baby brother, Kenneth Crabtree, brother Leland Crabtree, and first husband, Harry Stephens, and second husband, Shelby Keeton, both WWII veterans.
She is survived by her nephew, John Crabtree of Arizona, special cousin, Thomas (& Lea) Hammond of Monticello, Kentucky, step-children, John Keeton, Don Keeton, Jan Demel, step-nephew, Richard Ellis, and numerous cousins in Kentucky, and round the country.
The funeral service was conducted on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. E.S.T. in the Memory Chapel of the New’s Monticello Funeral Home, with Bro. Mark Helton officiating & eulogy by Richie Huff. Honors were provided by the Monticello Order of The Eastern Star #526, and the DAV Auxiliary #105. Burial was in the Elk Springs Cemetery in Monticello, Kentucky. Pallbearers were Glen Hickey, Scott Upchurch, Tim Hopper, Menvil Dishman, and Jimmy Thompson.
