Mrs. Lucille Elizabeth (Hay) Atkinson, of Monticello, Kentucky passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023 at her residence in Monticello having attained the age of 89 years, 4 months & 28 days. She was born in Lufkin, (Angelina County) Texas on Sunday, October 29, 1933 to Marvin Cisco and Eilene May (Lockridge) Hay. She married John Shelby Atkinson on Saturday, December 16, 1950. Lucille was of the Southern Baptist faith and was a former waitress that had worked at several restaurants for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John Shelby Atkinson, daughter, Norma Jean Pippin, grandchildren, Johnny Pippin, Stacey Jacobs, great-grandchildren, Julie Pippin and Heather Jacobs.
She is survived by her children, Sandra Ann (& Kenneth) House, of Whitesboro, Oklahoma, Wanda Fay Gemmel, of Plantersville, Texas, Shelby Ray (& Christina) Atkinson, of Monticello, Kentucky, her brother, Marshall Hay of Texas, twelve grandchildren, Cindy Callaway, Wendy Hooten, Carrie Tucker, Shari Allen, Donna Reineman, Donnie Hogan, Amy Chapman, Larry Hogan, Jerry Hogan, Joe Pippin, Ronnie Atkinson and Silas Atkinson, thirty great-grandchildren and fifteen great-great grandchildren.
The funeral service was conducted on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. E.S.T. in the Memory Chapel of New’s Monticello Funeral Home with Bro. Rodney Blevins Officiating. Music provided by Bro. Rodney Blevins and Sister Deborah Blevins. Casket bearers were Ronnie Atkinson, Kenneth House, Jackie Atkinson, Alvin Atkinson, Christina Atkinson, and Dennis P. McWhorter. Honorary casket bearer was Silas Blevins. Burial was in Gap Creek Cemetery in Wayne County, Kentucky.
