Cecile Townes Obituary

Cecile Townes, age 87, of Hazard, KY, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Hazard Medical Center.

Cecile was a 4-H member for many years, and she was National Champion in the Room Improvement category and got to attend 4-H National Congress in Chicago.  During Cecile’s time at UK she was a member of SUKY, where she attended both football and basketball games to cheer on the Wildcats.   Cecile came to Perry County to work for the Perry County Extension Service, both as the Home Economics Extension Agent and with 4H.  In Hazard, she met Paul Townes and they were married in 1964.  Cecile volunteered with many groups as her children grew up including Little League Football, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Drill Team.  After Lisa and Chad were out of high school, Cecile returned to work as a Nutritionist with the Perry County Health Department.  In 1974, Cecile joined the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, serving the Hazard Chapter as Regent, Chaplain and Treasurer at different points of her 50 years membership.

She was the daughter of the late Clarence Bates and the late Edna Mae Brown Bates. She is also preceded in death by Husband: Paul T. Townes and Infant Sister: Belinda Susan Bates.

She leaves surviving One Daughter: Lisa Townes, Hazard, KY; One Son: Philip Chadwick Townes, Hazard, KY; Three Grandchildren: Alexa Davidson, Dylan Cole & Emily Cole and A Host of Family & Friends

Arrangements are being handled by Maggard's Mtn. View Chapel where the family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 21, 2024. Funeral service will be at Maggard's Mtn. View Chapel at 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 21, 2024, with burial to follow at Mill Springs Christian Church Cemetery, Monticello, KY
