Charles "Chuck" Pitman Obituary

Charles (Chuck) Edwin Pitman, 76, passed away at home on April 8, 2024 surrounded by his family. Chuck began a life that touched many people at his birthplace in Somerset, Kentucky on January 14, 1948. Some of his younger growing up years were spent in Kankakee, Illinois followed by the family’s return to Science Hill, KY where he learned to love the Kentucky countryside. Hiking and fishing with friends and his large family remained dear to his heart forever. Sadly, his father, Henry (Hank) passed away when Chuck was only 15. He and his mom, Hazel had a close loving relationship that was very beautiful-some might even say she spoiled him!
Eager for independence and adventure, Chuck joined the Navy out of school. He was stationed on the USS Ranger aircraft carrier off the Vietnam coast for his four years as a signalman. The Ranger docked in various locations such as San Francisco, Hawaii, Japan and the Philippines affording him with experiences he loved to share.
Following his discharge from the Navy, Chuck began a career with the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk, letter carrier and station manager. Also came marriage, settling in California, and the births of three daughters, Cathe, Carlla and Sarah who gave him nine grandchildren. Chuck had a particularly close bond with his daughter Carlla and grandsons Dylan and Aiden, that he cherished.
In 1988, Chuck met Carol and it was love at first sight. Within six months, they rang the wedding bells. They had 36 wonderful years together full of adventure and fun. In 1992, they relocated to Idaho where they were later joined by some of Carol’s family, her mom Melva and Ed, her son Trent, and daughter Shannon along with her husband Wil and eventually by three grandchildren Sarah, Melanie and Adam. The Idaho lifestyle fit them perfectly. They enjoyed golf, tennis, camping, fishing, boating, hiking, an attempt at snow skiing, and traveling the U.S. from Florida to California to Washington to Massachusetts and so many places in between. A highlight was living the snowbird life and spending three winters in Arizona – a winter golfing paradise. And paradise it was because this is where Chuck had not one but two years in a row, holes in one!! Chuck thought it was like a small taste of heaven. It was indeed a beautiful life, full of adventures and one Chuck and Carol felt fortunate to have together.
Through the years when Chuck began to develop health issues, he fought them gallantly. One after another, he dealt with them, smiled and charged on. It seemed nothing could stop him for too long. Unfortunately, this last one came on strong and sudden and was too much for this warrior. Chuck was our hero. We will miss his smile, his silly, funny, and sometimes serious side. He brought laughter and love to so many of us, especially to his loving wife and adventure companion. We are blessed to have had Chuck in our lives, and will miss him dearly, but thankful that he has found peace and comfort in his eternal home.
When someone you love becomes wonderful memories, the memories become a treasure. Chuck, thank you for all the treasures you left us with. We love you.
